My Back H-U-R-T-S

We all heard these words.

Some of us have said these words.

But many more of us have actually felt the “discomfort” of back pain.

Since most back pain cases are not caused by serious medical conditions, we need to understand why back pain occurs and how to correct it so it does not interfere with our everyday activities of daily living.

Back pain is typically caused by sprained ligaments, strained muscles, ruptured discs and other irritable joint conditions. As educated consumers we have a choice of treatment methods:

  • We can do nothing and suffer in pain
  •  We can invest in lots of money in treatments that hide the pain by dulling various nerve pathways along the spine to the brain, or
  • We can use a proven an effective treatment method that is effective, safe, decreases the use of medication and very cost effective – Chiropractic manipulation of the spine.

No one wants to suffer when they can easily find relief from their pain.

No one wants to be constantly taking numerous drugs and rubs in the hope of getting relief.

But everyone wants something that works! Chiropractic has helped millions without the use of costly drugs and perhaps it can help you!

Chiropractic care finds its early origins in both China (2700 B.C.) and Greece (1500 B.C.). Even the Greek physician Hippocrates (460 – 357 B. C.) wrote about chiropractic and recognized its importance related to spinal health.

But it wasn’t until 1885 when Daniel David Palmer working in Davenport, Iowa established the Chiropractic profession and two years later founded the Palmer School of Chiropractic, which is one of the most well-known chiropractic colleges in the United States.

Chiropractic medicine has been recognized in every state and gained world-wide recognition.

As a specialty, Chiropractors treat patients with neuromusculoskeletal complaints by using spinal manipulation. Patients with joint, neck and back pains, certain arthritis related condition, spinal disc conditions, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, sprains, and strains. In addition, Chiropractors can treat some non-neuromuscloskeletal conditions, such as asthma, allergies, some digestive disorders, other conditions. New research is being continuously done resulting in new and more effective ways to help patients who are experiencing pain and discomfort.

The federal government research organization – the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research – recommends that low back pain suffers choose the most conservative care first, and it recommends spinal manipulation as the only safe and effective drugless form of initial professional treatment for acute low back problems in adults. 1
